In a significant leap for India’s space program, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)-D3 on August 16, 2024. The mission, carrying the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-08), marked the culmination of the SSLV development project.  

What is SSLV?
The SSLV is a small, low-cost launch vehicle designed to inject small satellites into low Earth orbit. It is a three-stage rocket with solid propellants in the first two stages and a liquid propellant-based third stage. The SSLV is India’s answer to the growing demand for launching small satellites, which are increasingly being used for various applications such as Earth observation, communication, and scientific research.  

The EOS-08 Satellite
